Slow Cool Breezes
Having lived away from home for twelve years, my impression and memories of Singapore were what I had experienced as a child. In the time that I was away, my thoughts of home were shaped by the foreign media, looking at Singapore from the outside.
In 2009, I came back to understand it better. Finding subjects through friends and relatives, I met with people, listened to their stories and visited their homes, exploring areas and lives that were both foreign and yet familiar to the Singapore where I had grown up.
Our views are shaped by where we live and our experiences. We juggle our dreams, our obligations, our families, our jobs, our frustrations, our secrets.
Slow Cool Breezes brought me into the homes and lives of the people you see here. It has also brought me back to question my perceptions of my home and relationships. Our homes are what are closest to us. They are also where we have to face ourselves.
